It's easy to see why many travellers regard Aurangabad as little more than a convenient, though largely uninteresting, place in which to kill time on the way to Ellora and Ajanta. First impression seem to confirm its reputation as an industrial metropolis ; wide streets, fast traffic, ugly building sites, and gaping patches of urban wasteland merge into a featureless ferroconcrete sprawl. Yet, given a little effort, northern Maharashtra's largest city can compensate for its architectural shortcomings. Scattered around its ragged fringes, the dilapidated remains of fortifications, gateways, domes and minarets - including those of the most ambitious Mughul tomb garden in western India, the Bibi-Ka-Maqbara -bear witness to an illustrious imperial past, the small but fascinating crop of rock-cut Buddhist caves, huddled along the flanks of the flat-topped, sandy yellow hills to the north, are remnants of even more ancient occupation. Afternoon visit the Bibi ka Maqbara - Built by Azam Shah in 1678 it is a son's loving tribute to his mother, Begum Rabia Durrani, the Queen of Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb. City tour of Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Ajanta Caves are 106 kms from Aurangabad and date back to the 2nd century BC. The 30 rock hewn caves are adorned with Buddhist sculpture and the frescoes portray in epic form the religious and secular life through eight centuries.
Ellora Caves (29 kms) encompasses 34 rock cut shrines representing Buddhist, Hindu & Jain art dating from the 4th to 9th century A.D. The most remarkable among them is the Kailash Temple, meant to be a replica of Lord Shivas celestial abode - Kailash is the best example of Rock cut architecture and an engineering marvel .Overnight at hotel. THE ABOVE COST INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
- Accommodation on twin sharing basis as per the itinerary, in hotels mentioned or similar.
- Meal Plan: Bed & Breakfast basis.
- Arrival/Departure transfers either Aurangabad airport / Railway station using an air-conditioned Toyota Innova or similar.
- Meet and greet services by Eastbound/Associate office in Aurangabad.
- Services of English speaking local guide for the half day city tour and full day Ajanta & Ellora Caves respectively.
- Entrance fees (Single entry) are included in the above cost.
